The Catholic Women’s League of Canada was established in 1920. The C.W.L. Motto “For God and Canada” unites in prayer and service our members with 105,000 members across Canada in 46 diocese and 1,405 parish councils.
St Maurice Catholic Women’s League began in 1978 and we now have 87 members.
A deep spirituality provides the basis for much League work. League members are dedicated to the preservation of Christian family life, the sanctity of life and many other social issues. We support and are involved in many other activities in our parish, diocese, our province and across Canada as part of our national organization.
Our members are active in all areas of Parish life. On a continuous basis, we care for the altar and altar linens, visit the sick or shut in members and regularly pray in the Adoration Chapel.
Each year a bursary is given to a graduating student at St. Pius X High School.
For deceased members, there are prayers at the funeral home, organizing and serving at a reception after Mass and arranging a Memorial Mass.
For 14 years, sandwiches have been collected during the winter months in support of The Shepherds of Good Hope. The total donated thus far is nearing 10,000 loaves.
Our charities include N.E.T. Ministries, Catholic Christian Outreach, Youville Centre, Miriam Centre, St. Joseph’s Women Centre, Mater Care International, Coady Institute to name a few.
We hold an annual fund raising Bake Sale each October, the monies raised used for our charities.
Twice a year, in June and December, a Potluck Dinner is held with an invitation to all ladies of the parish to join us.
In April 2007, a new program, “The Golden Agers 50+” was formed, bringing together C.W.L. members, fellow parishioners and visitors for fellowship, refreshments, cards and games. Many friendships and special bonds are formed through working and praying together.
Our meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the atrium after the 7PM Mass.. All ladies of the parish are very welcome to join us.
